In the Illusion of Sex, two faces are perceived as male and female. However, both faces are actually versions of the same androgynous face. One face was created by increasing the contrast of the androgynous face, while the other face was created by decreasing the contrast. The face with more contrast is perceived as female, while the face with less contrast is perceived as male. The Illusion of Sex demonstrates that contrast is an important cue for perceiving the sex of a face, with greater contrast appearing feminine, and lesser contrast appearing masculine.
Am I a feminist or a womanist? The student needs to know if I do men occasionally and primarily, am I a lesbian? Tongue tied up in my cheek, I attempt to respond with some honesty. Well, this business of Dykes and Dykery, I tell her, it's often messy. With social tensions as they are, you never quite know what you're getting.

Girls who are only straight at night, hardcore butches be sporting dresses between 9 & 6 every day. Sometimes she is a he, trapped by the limitations of our imaginations. Primarily, I tell her, I am concerned about young women who are raped on college campuses, in bars, after poetry readings like this one, in bars. Bruised lip and broken heart, you will forgive her if she does not come forward with the truth immediately, for when she does, it is she who will stand trial as damaged goods. Everyone will say she asked for it, dressed as she was, she must have wanted it. The words will knock about in her head: " Harlot, slut, tease, loose woman" - some people can not handle a woman on the loose. You know those women in pinstriped shirts and silk ties, You know those women in blood-red stiletto heels and short skirts. These women make New York City the most interesting place. And while we're on the subject of diversity, Asia is not one big race, and there's not one big country called 'The Islands', and no, I am not from there.

There are a hundred ways to slip between the cracks of our not so credible cultural assumptions about race and religion. Most people are suprised that my father is Chinese. Like there's some kind of preconditioned look for the half-Chinese, lesbian poet who used to be Catholic, but now believes in dreams.

Let's get real sister-boy in the double-x hooded sweatshirt. That blonde-haired, blue-eyed Jesus in the Vatican ain't right. That motherfucker was Jewish, not white. Christ was a middle-eastern rasta man who ate grapes in the company of prostitutes and he drank wine more than he drank water. Born of the spirit, the disciples loved him in the flesh.

But the discourse is not on those of us who identify as gay or lesbian or even straight. The state needs us to be either a clear left or right. Those in the middle get caught in the cross - fire away at the other side. If you are not for us, then you must be against us. If you are not for us, then you must be against us. People get scared enough, they pick a team. Be it for Buddha or Krishna or Christ, I believe God is that place between belief and what you name it. I believe holy is what you do when there is nothing between your actions and the truth.

The truth is I'm afraid to draw your black lines around me, I'm not always pale in the middle, I come in too many flavors for one fucking spoon. I am never one thing or the other. At night I am everything I fear, tears and sorrows, black windows and muffled screams. In the morning, I am all I ever want to be: rain and laughter, bare footprints and invisible seams, always without breath or definition. I claim every single dawn, for yesterday is simply what I was, and tomorrow even that will be gone.

Four
South African men have been sentenced to 18 years in jail for stabbing
and stoning to death 19-year-old lesbian Zoliswa Nkonyana in 2006.

The court found that the men killed Ms Nkonyana because she was living openly as a lesbian.
A crowd outside the court in Khayelitsha, a Cape Town township, cheered and danced at the sentencing.
The constitution protects people on the grounds of sexual orientation - but homophobia is widespread.
The BBC's Pumza Fihlani in Johannesburg says the sentence
handed out in the Nkonyana case is highly significant - both because of
its length and the fact that the magistrate concluded that Ms Nkonyana
was killed for being a lesbian.
For years activists have been calling on the state to be
tougher on people who kill or attack people because of their sexual
orientation - and they want the state to recognize hate crimes against
lesbians, she says. [full story at BBC News Africa]
NGO ActionAid said in a report titled Hate Crimes: the rise of corrective rape in South Africa lesbians were increasingly at risk of rape, particularly in South African townships where homosexuality is largely taboo.
South Africa has one of the world's most progressive Constitutions and became the first country in Africa to allow gay marriage in 2006, but homosexuality is still widely frowned upon and same-sex unions are often decried as "un-African".
The brutal rape and murder last year of female soccer player Eudy Simelane, a lesbian, threw a spotlight on homophobic violence, particularly toward women.
Thirty-one lesbians have been reported murdered in homophobic attacks since 1998, but support groups say the actual number is probably much higher because crimes on the basis of sexual orientation are not recognised in the South African criminal justice system, ActionAid said.

Last month I did a post on corrective rape in Africa. I just recieved this in my email, so please go check it out and make your voice heard.

A new ActionAid report describes the shocking rise of "corrective" rape in South Africa - in which South African lesbians are being raped in an effort to "cure" them of their sexual orientation. Support groups in Cape Town say they see 10 new cases of "corrective" rape every week. And it's even more widespread around the rest of the country.
Many perpetrators of rape already go unpunished in South Africa, but the situation is even worse for lesbian women. Indeed, 31 lesbian women have been murdered in homophobic attacks since 1998, but in only one of these cases has there been a conviction. sign the petition >>>
Not to say that 'Occupy' is worthless - it has held a mirror to the resistance body itself, and that is giving hope to many people. Is hope a good thing? That is a big question. It depends on what kind of hope it is.

Hope can merely be something that helps people sleep at night. In the case of 'Occupy', a lot of armchair resist folks feel camaraderie which is actually kind of damaging in the way in that they may never become mobilized. On the other hand, it is a true shot in the arm for those who have resisted authentically for however long.

The reason I have posted this video on 'psychopaths' is because the resistance leaders need to know that they are dealing with this kind of mentality. If they were fully aware, the strategy would obviously have to change. That says that the resistance has a lot to learn.

If the resistance were fully armed with techs and organized, for example: attacks on let's say Rothschild's networks would be occurring. The battle of the best would be happening already, but it isn't. This is only the stuff of Hollywood movies. The 'anonymous' threat is what it is. Is someone somewhere fully capable of taking down systems in the corporate structure, thereby wounding their abilities and cutting the flow of capital to their coffers? If it is, why are they waiting?
Or do the Rothschilds of the world simply scan the planet, go to defcon etc., and scoop every worthy hacker that exists. Either join us or disappear. Simple.

Is this conspiracy thinking? Watch the video, learn a bit about the enemy.

I have first hand experience with the psychopathic nature - I have watched it in action, and watched it evolve over many years. Sure, as they say at the beginning of this video, everyone has come in contact; sure they say everyone can recognize a psychopath etc., but if you don't get into bed with your enemy, if you don't know how they taste, smell, breath and quiver, you are still outside the gates and likely will never come close to making a strike.
So... let's stop fooling ourselves: compared to a 'normal' person, to regular folks, these people are alien monsters who will eat your children.

Get to know them a little, forget your friends, get close with these guys... just don't let them see you watching. Once they lock on you, well, you just better be ready.

The video below is a good short intro to the psychopath mentality in the social world - and the advice at the end is very practical for day to day interactions with these people in society.

(snippets)

cognitive dissonance, double think

they are hurt people - the brain want so defend itself, so shuts down emotions
what is left is a hole that needs to be filled

fill it through wealth creation, excitement, partying

Four levels of power:

low ambition/intelligence ends up in drugs and crime

middle ambition/intelligence will seek power wherever, in any positon in society where they can't be held accountable (fired)

high ambition end up in three power positions - political (Washington DC), financial (NYC), social (religions/Hollywood/media) Hollywood, Silicon Valley, Madison Ave - these three powers give rise to the final fourth power which a lot of people don't realize is out there

the Rothschilds and the Rockerfellers, Queen of England, Putin, these are the big power players that call the shots - they use the other three powers to run the world.

The video is audio only after the intro - part two plays auto after the first one ends:
If you haven't already, you can find a large resource of trans related info and an extensive forum. I get tired of things easily that aren't integrally important to me, which covers a lot, hence the leaving and returning. I see that the age average at the forums (at least among the recurring posters) must be below thirty and perhaps pushing even towards 25. So it goes.

I tend to be a ravenous study when it comes to digital information - when I sus out people I check all their stuff they've posted, check their websites, creative info etc. If I want I spend more time and sometimes comment and connect etc. BTW I'm not a sociopath or lurker of any kind - I'm definitely not that interested in people's natures - I am however a studier of sociopathology which is entirely another subject. The thing is, I am quintessential with my online research. I crossed the boundary of end user on the web when I first came in contact with http in the mid nineties. In fact the actual event that struck me, branded me to the beyond end user status was when I made my first ftp connection and uploaded a web page. That was it - it was like the first time I saw a print come up in a developer tray... nuther story again.

Anyway, that all being said - I believe that youth on Susan's and in many places on the web tend to miss essential truths, which is a comment in itself. Here is a few words by a poster on Susan's who like myself, being a little older, had a few important words to say. It was on a busy thread and no one paid notice or commented. I think that her words bear repeating, in fact I made a jpeg and for now it sits on my desktop as a reminder... Here it is.

On another note: I had great fortune yesterday - I scored two pairs of boots at Wallyworld for a combined total of under fifty bux, and in the mall as well - a Kobo Touch for $119 (20 bux off). I find the Kobo to be excellent for what it is - I have no interest in a multipurpose tablet of any kind - I just wanted a decent ereader which this is. I also began reformatting some epub books I have that were formatted with 0 margin width. It's pretty easy, and I'm sure I'll be offering to compile ebooks for writers soon. (besides making my own). I also took delivery on a new scanner yesterday - an Epson V600 which scans negatives as well. I researched a lot over the last few years waiting for just the right thing. So, I'm a pretty happy gal.
I have often asked myself and written about it, "Why do people equate vulnerability with weakness?" If you take a look around the internet you will find that vulnerability is a fairly rare subject in psychological studies considering how powerfully it affects us. Wikipedia states "Social vulnerability refers to the inability of people, organizations, and societies to withstand adverse impacts from multiple stressors to which they are exposed." I've learned to view my own vulnerability as a strength of character which allows me to open my eyes and heart to the truth.

Quote from the video: "I know that vulnerability is kind of the core... of shame and fear and our struggle for worthiness. But it appears that it's also the birthplace of joy, of creativity, of belonging, of love... and I think I have a problem. I need some help, but here's the thing, no family stuff, no childhood shit, I just need some strategies."
I Thought It Was Just Me: Women Reclaiming Power and Courage in a Culture of Shame ~
Brené Brown [amazon]Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077121515047906990.post-62064989838422821322011-12-27T19:35:00.000-08:002012-01-06T14:39:36.172-08:00And so it began (again)I've created this spot as a place to put my heartfelt meanderings down.

I've had a presence on the web for some time in the trans news and politics arena. Not long ago I lost a large contract in my under employed / self employed world when the client found out I was trans. It wasn't the first time, so I decided to cut my losses and shift my trans web self to an anonymous being. fyi: If you don't know Kahlan, you're def missing out.

I simply need somewhere to bare my emotional soul and connect with a few other trans folk without having to be a real person in the real world.

I haven't tried this before (being anonymous on the web) and I'm curious how it will pan out.

The last few days have been difficult. My front tooth broke right off and I discovered that there was a cavity festering away there undetected by my dentist. So I'm very anxious / afraid / upset about it. On top of that, my 16 year old son is pressing for more and more freedom and detachment, which is terribly difficult for me, although I'm trying not to let him see it too too much. He understands, and yet we both know it's a necessary evil of growing into an adult.

About: I'm 50+, single, live in a small progressive town in BC, have two boys 18 & 16, autostraddle natured, on HRT three years, bottom surgery 2012, play and work with words + synths + pixels + code. I wrote a trans blog for a few years, co-presented Trans101 presentations to women's, Gov't, NGO etc groups locally. I recently lost an important web design contract when the client discovered I was trans, and since I've decided to become anonymous in my web presence.

For me, confidence is what drives me. Try to take it away... forget it, not happening.

That's all for now. I just needed to write that down and pretend someone was hearing it.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
